Thankful and full of thanks

by Maria Söderberg

Over the past few years I’ve developed the habit of closing each day with a short bit of journaling as a way of reflecting on the past day with God. After some time I realised that a big portion of that journaling was just expressing all the things I was thankful to God for. I realised how easy it was to come to God in prayer and just blurt out all the things that are stressing me at the moment or that thing that I’m struggling to understand about his plan. But at the end of the day, when I look back, isn’t there always something to be grateful about – somewhere I can see the light of his grace shining through?

Here’s what I wrote on Thursday, after a sunny day, and a really great Equip (one of the student cells):
“God, today I’m thankful for friends and for laughter. For the grace to be amazed by the richness of your plan and your word in the Bible. For the grace of living in community with others that pull me closer to you, that help me lift my eyes and soul to worship. You are good. You are beautiful.
I’m thankful for the sun and colours and understanding the Bible better together on the grass with Matt (see picture). To live in fellowship with the trinity and the perseverance towards greater depth. I’m thankful that I can be so full of thankfulness in my heart that I don’t have to fill myself with everything else to distract myself but can remain in this grace.
Thank you.”

What are you thankful for today?
